Meet The Compères... Sunflower Kate
What's your day job?I inform London's commuter population of what is hot and what's not on a daily basis and at the weekends. I am allowed to play what some would call guilty but pleasurable records on the radio with Sean Rowley!
When and where was your BC compère debut?
When it were all just fields! The virgin chill stage at Eastnor Deer Park 2002!
What stage are you on?
The big one! It's the only one I will fit on this year! [She’s pregnant!].
What are you looking forward to on your stage?
Mmmm difficult question. There is nothing I am not looking forward to really. I am obviously excited about the stuff I know I love: Aim, Coldcut, Bent, I could go on, but the beauty of being at The Big Chill is that it's the stuff I don't know that always truly covers me with goosebumps! Bring it on!
Any embarrassing or difficult compère moments to share?
"Don't forget, it’s really important that you all slap on your sunscreen, we don't want you getting burnt or sun stroke". It was about midnight, cold and very, very dark!! And, a word of wisdom! Infiltrating someone else's stage is never a good idea. Last year, I ended up on the Chill Stage on my day off… I wasn't wearing a bra and I played very bad air guitar! No pleasure for the audience, lots of guilt from me! Belated apologies to all that witnessed!
Tell us one of your best compère moments!
Last year I managed to pronounce Tinariwen without stuttering!
If all else fails…
Hand the mic to the stage manager and run away! Only joking. If all else fails turn quickly into Nurse Ratchett and talk about the benefits of sunscreen!
My personal Big Chill highlight so far has been…
That it is still, after a decade, such a huge part of my life, the people and the party!
Top festival tip...
Always carry Colgate chewing gum and a woolleeeeey hat, AND ALWAYS FLUSH THE TOILET!!!!!!
Lastly, I'm not posh, I'm…
Just allergic to canvas.
