The Big Ask

The Big Ask

A message from our friends at Friends of the Earth...

The climate is changing. It's time to ask questions.

"The Big Ask was the first piece of sense I'd read about climate change for ages."
Thom Yorke - Radiohead.
More from Thom.

The Big Chill is continuing to support Friends of the Earth’s Climate Campaign - The Big Ask. Whilst we can all do our bit to help save energy and reduce emissions, its the Government who has the power to make the most difference. To make it easier for us to do the right thing. To create the infrastructure that will enable the solutions to climate change to flourish.

More and more people, including political leaders, recognise that climate change is a massive threat. The effects can already be seen in Britain and across the world. There’s also general agreement that to stop climate change before it spirals out of control there’s one thing we must do: pump less climate change gases - especially carbon dioxide - into the atmosphere.

Britain has influence on the world stage; we can take a lead in showing other nations the way to go to address climate change. But we can only do this if we get our house in order first.

That’s why we’re campaigning for a law - a Climate Change Bill - obliging every UK Government to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3 per cent every year. We want climate change to be a priority for the next Parliament. And we think that with your help we can make it happen.

This is The Big Ask.

Our message to you is simple: ask the Government to do more to tackle climate change, by writing to your MP telling them to support the Bill.

Since The Big Ask launched in May 2005, over 120,000 people across the country have signed their names to our petition and contacted their MP. And, up to now, more than 400 MPs have listened to people like you and have promised to support a Climate Change Bill in Parliament.

The Big Ask is getting bigger every day. But we need more people to help shape its future. We still have a long way to go; for an effective Climate Change Bill to be implemented in the next Parliament we need more and more people like you to take action.

The campaign has a host of high profile supporters including Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Razorlight's Johnny Borrel.

We really need you, now and in the next few years, to help put climate change on top of Government’s agenda and keep it there.
