Lucid With Alucidnation
Lucid eclecticizes its way across the The Big Chill Bar's soundsystem every month. We catch up with old friend Bruce Bickerton for a candid insight into this regular treat...What's your night called?
Lucid
Who are you?
Bruce Bickerton.
What have you been up to before Lucid?
Everything and nothing.
What's the music policy for your night?
Great sounds from the past and the future, eclectism is the keyword.
Who has played, or is going to play at Lucid?
I have to be honest and say not many folks, I've got too many good tunes to play, and I need the money...! Stuart Nisbet has been a regular fixture though over the past two and a half years.
If money was no object, and you could book any line-up of DJs and bands living or dead, who would play?
Jeff Lynne (DJ), Manuel Gottsching (DJ), Scientist (DJ), Joni Mitchell (Live), Prince (Live).
What are your current top 5 tunes?
Not really got any - all my equipment and records are in storage whilst I move house...
What do you think of The Big Chill Bar?
Didn't really like it much at first, but it's grown on me - it's now sufficiently 'lived in' to have it's own unique character.
What three things would your ideal bar have to have?
A selection of guest ales drawn direct from the barrel, the best Genelec soundsystem available to man and some dominoes.
I'm just on my way to the bar - what I get you?
Some tobacco and skins.
Ideal evening chilling at home?
An open fire and good conversation with the wife and friends.
Ideal evening chilling out?
Same as above with the addition of some booze and smoke.
Favourite places?
Rhosilli Beach; Gower Peninsula, Paros/Naxos Islands, Greece, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, my new studio.
What are you reading these days?
E-mails and conspiracy theories.
What are you working on at present?
Trying to get myself better with the aid of acupuncture after years of chronic back trouble.
What would most like to achieve over the next five years?
To be fit and healthy and to carry on doing what I do.
What would you like to see change most in the world over the next five years?
George Bush to be removed from power, for tensions in the Middle/Far East to subside and for the people who hold postions of power to realise that we've all got to get on; the Earth is only one grain of sand on a very large expanse of beach.
Highlight of your life?
Too many to mention; the road trip to and from Naxos 2002 in our camper was pretty fucking excellent though.
At a festival - tent, B&B, or hotel for you, and why?
VW Campervan. It gives you the peace, quiet and luxury that you'd have at home, but in the middle of anywhere you care to mention. Once you've experienced one, there's no going back...
What was your Top Big Chill moment?
I've had a lot of Big Chill moments; however, my gig on the Sanctuary Stage at Enchanted Garden 02 last thing on Saturday night takes some beating I reckon.
Describe the essence of The Big Chill in a few words...
Still the best festival.
Thanks!
Lucid occurs monthly at The Big Chill Bar.
