What's Alucidnation up to?

What's Alucidnation Up To?

We catch up with Bruce 'alucidnation' Bickerton, to see what this year holds in store for him...

Happy New Year! How did you spend Xmas and The New Year?
Happy New Year to you too! This year was different in the respect that we didn't 'do' Chrimbo properly for the first time in about 10 years, due to the fact that we've been moving back to Harrow on the Hill after our year and a half 'sojourn' to the rural idyll of Buckinghamshire. What with the move (which, foolishly, I undertook on my own) we decided that rather than attempt to host Christmas here at home, where Nina usually decorates the place beautifully and cooks for about 10 people on 'the day', we'd a) not decorate and b) go to her sisters for dinner instead. It was strange not decorating the place, but hey - you have to take it all down anyway...!

New Year was spent in Harrogate, North Yorkshire with friends and family. My friend and occasional VJ Ed, has been putting on a do at his place for the last few years, so this was most enjoyable, catching up with people that I haven't seen for a while. Having said that, I overdid things and ended up crawling to the bedroom far earlier than anticipated... lightweight.

How do you feel about 2007?
I have no preconceptions about the new year; I never have. I think this is a good policy; you're never upset by things that you might have wanted to happen, yet maybe pleasantly surprised by things that do.

What musical plans have you got for the coming year?
Not that much planned at the moment. Probably be doing some more 'Late at Tate' gigs, the one in December 06 went down very well and I really enjoyed it. I'm presently building a new recording studio down the garden, which should be finished by the end of January providing the bloody roof turns up in time... Once that's sorted out, I'll be writing new material, which'll be roughly based around improvisations that I've been tinkering with on my new acquisition - a Danish MiniPiano with a beautiful tone.

As far as collaborations are concerned, I've always got people in mind; I'd like to work with a double-bass player and a percussionist on some stuff ideally...

My Artec project with Stuart Nisbet will also be seeing the light of day again this year, but rather than deep house, we'll be taking a more krautrock approach this time! Who knows?

Releases - I've just delivered a promo for the second alucidnation album to Big Chill HQ (Ed - it's bloody gorgeous!), but there's still tweaking to be done as far as that's concerned. Would like to see another LP out by the Summer, though...

What will you be up to apart from music?
Sorting out my health issues; I've had major troubles with my back over the past few years, so top of my list is to be able to walk again properly and then take serious evasive action so as to stop knackering myself... And finishing off our house; there are interesting things like pointing of brickwork to attend to and garden landscaping. All good stuff, like.

If everything goes according to plan for you in 2007, 2008 will be all about..... what?
Dunno; you tell me!

What are your predictions for this year?
George Bush (our modern day Hitler) will be either assassinated or toppled by his own people, we'll have a wet summer and house prices will collapse at the back end of the year. Oh, and Robbie Williams will re-join Take That...

Cheers!
