Music For Dreams

Music For Dreams

Music for Dreams - The Scandinavian Chapter

Danish label Music for Dreams is the love child of legendary DJ, party promoter, producer, label man and space cadet Kenneth Bager. Music for Dreams - The Scandinavian Chapter @ The Big Chill Festival is the second endeavour into Big Chill land from the coolest and hippest Danish label. The first appearance at The Big Chill House in May ’07 displayed DJ performances from the likes of veteran Jerome Sydenham (NYC) and label boss Kenneth Bager (DK) himself plus a very special live performance from Hess Is More. Every Scandinavian Chapter in the UK generously offers goodies from the Music for Dreams catalogue of quality music, spiced up with the best from the rest of Scandinavia. Each event usually features 1 live act swept in 1-2 dj performances.

Hess Is More (DK) live

With his virtuosic ability to play multiple instruments and his love of jazz and experimental Electronica, lead man Mikkel Hess creates a sound palette that is all at once original, hypnotic and timeless. The Hess Is More live band also features Mikkel's brother Nikolaj Hess and other various musicians who take turns to be part of the band, randomly switching instruments during live sets and playfully interacting with the audience (sometimes handing out literally 30-40 small instruments into the crowd). In a most unique set up, Hess Is More mixes electronic and acoustic elements into something best described as a live remix - reinventing, yet maintaining, the sound from the albums.

This skilled and very abnormal outfit is one of the most original acts to come out of Denmark in a long time, winning a Grammy last year and being nominated again this year. In the UK Hess Is More has already gained support from Rob Da Bank on both comps and on radio during the past years. Hess Is More has previously played sold out concerts in London and for the anticipated Big Chill gig the freestyle disco jazz lovers will even bring Norwegian based Vietnamese seductress Bang Chau Thi Nguyen on vocals. Hess Is More has a new studio album out in August ’07.

Lulu Rouge (DK)

Lulu Rouge is the brightest shinning star on the Scandinavian Chill Electronica scene. Not that the constellation Lulu Rouge has been around in this end of the universe for years and years, but the two travelers behind Lulu Rouge, DJ T.O.M. and Buda, have both been around, crashing club land for the last decade.

DJ T.O.M has been Trentemøller’s partner for the last 3 years straight touring around the world in nearly every major club you can think of, weekend after weekend. But T.O.M. is more than “just” music. He has recently established the Art Rebels online network community with focus on design, art and music culture. T.O.M is currently also part of Bobi Brothers (out now on Kickin Music UK) and former booker of world famous VEGA Nightclub in Copenhagen.

Buda has been producing and DJing ever since the beginning of club culture in Scandinavia. He has blessed artists such as Bliss, Laid Back, DJ Disse, Ganga, TelepopMusik, Phil Mison, Sergio Mendes, Cirque de Soleil and The Beatles with his production skills. In reality Buda’s nickname is Buda Banzai as he was 1/3 of the groundbreaking chill-out band Banzai Republic, who released the outstanding album “This is where the Fun Starts early in the Day”, released on Music for Dreams. The album featured artist contribution by Natasha Atlas, Al Jarreau, Bukka White, Palle Mikkelborg and Cesaria Evoria.

Now the 2 DJ heads and producers have joined forces to create one of the most interesting and refreshing sounds coming out of Scandinavia. Lulu Rouge are finishing work on their debut album, an album where long time friend Trentemøller also drops by with a contributing note to the rapidly forward moving project soon to be released on Music for Dreams.

Lulu Rouge is vibrant and playful yet extremely well orchestrated deep dubbed chill that always flies over the neighborhoods of Basic Channel meets Massive Attack before taking of, pushing the frontier further out into the big vast indefinite Space.
