SUNDAY SHEBEEN

Sunday Shebeen

Afri-kokoa kicks off 2008 with a new monthly Sunday Shebeen.

Kicking off on Sunday 20th January 2008, and then on the 3rd Sunday of each month thereafter, Sunday Shebeen's resident DJs AJ Kwame (Runaways) and Baggy will explore the universal sounds of new and old Afro-musical fusions from African Hip- Hop and pop, Afro-soul to Hip-Life, Afro-Eurasian grooves to Afro-house, Broken Beat to Dubstep and Bashment and Beat Poetry.

Artistic will be provided by Erin Sorenson, Arts & crafts stall by Senga Design.

Each month also sees a special guest bringing live music, DJ sets and performance...

Sunday 20th January
We have the special honour of featuring poet, singer and musician Fidel-I-Man - a founding member of the H.D.D. (Hard Dark Dimension) - who says:

It's time now to bring the world a new sound from a new breed, who.. 'born yah inna Inglan'.. With songs to make you laugh, cry, think, open your eyes and realize.....
If your into consciousness and food for your brain, you'll be into this.

So sit back and relax and I'll take you on a MUSICAL JOURNEY, about LIFE, seen thru' MY EYES....then YOU can TELL ME what YOU can SEE’.

Sunday 17th February

Resident DJs AJ Kwame (Runaways) and Baggy will be joined by DJ Nick V (Guys & Dolls, Paris) and DJ Eric Soul (AFROGROOV) and continue to explore the universal sounds of new and old Afro-musical fusions from African Hip- Hop and pop, Afro-soul to Hip-Life, Afro-Eurasian grooves to Afro-house, Broken Beat to Dubstep and Bashment and Beat Poetry.

Sunday 16th March
We have the special honour of featuring Indianjazzhead/clarinettest/composer/producer ‘Arun Ghosh’ Live with percussionist Aref Durvesh at this event. In the world of Indian fusion music, Arun Ghosh is a one-off, an artist that effortlessly joins the dots between India’s musical heritage, Manchester/London’s jazz fusion sounds.
