Charlie Dark - Biography

With flamboyant gestures and vocal gymnastics, writer, producer and DJ Charlie Dark has made a dynamic impact on the UK poetry and performance scene. As one third of the band Attica Blues, the critically acclaimed hip hop inspired trio, Charlie had already established a reputation for pushing the boundaries of imagery and musicality by the time he entered the international poetry scene. He has toured around the globe, both independently and with the band, to places as far afield as Tokyo, New York and Berlin, Africa. Australia, Canada and most of Europe. Charlie makes regular appearances on the international literature and spoken word circuit and has toured with the British Council to Germany, Spain and The Netherlands. He was featured at Poetry International at the South Bank in 2004. An experienced tutor and workshop facilitator, he runs courses on creative writing and poetry for young people and adults throughout the year and has been a Poet Coach for the London Teenage Poetry Slam for three years running, successfully guiding Lister Community School to victory in the 2005 slam. Inspired by his work in the communities Charlie also runs Alphabet Soup, a spoken word night featuring established Poets alongside young emerging voices. An articulate explorer of the ways in which music and text collide, Charlie Dark is globally recognized as an important musical visionary through his eclectic Dj sets, production and remix work and most recently as the founder of Blactronica, a loose collective of poets, painters, musicians, film makers and other creative types.
