Riz MC

Riz MC’s year says it all. He recently supported Mos Def at the Warehouse Project, is an emerging-artist-in-residence at Royal Festival Hall, and featured artist on Nitin Sawhney’s Aftershock programme. His song ‘Post 911 Blues’ had worldwide coverage, and was banned from MTV and UK radio. Besides being an actor of renown, starring in Channel 4’s ‘Britz’ and Asian Dub Foundation’s ‘Gaddafi: The Opera’, Riz has been described as "... a sick MC. He's got nice charisma, he knows how to handle himself on the mic.”

Ex Central Tempest

Without a doubt one of the best performance poets in the country at present, Ex Central Tempest’s rapid-fire lyrics encapsulate urban life. While she’s not one to shy to fade away from telling it exactly how it is, her words are motivating and inspiring, and her delivery is electric.

Ventriloquist

Ventriloquist is an artist whose mellifluous poetry combine urban musings with spiritual undertones. His band, which feature renowned jazz players, is a malleable melange of marvelous melodies and mesmerising musical madness. His appearance at the Big Chill will sees him doing what he does best, unplugged, delivering spoken word.

Last Mango In Paris

Yet another pseudonym for Shane Solanki, a man who Big Chill regulars will know well - under at least one of his many guises! While Shane’s wordplay helped to shape Ninja Tune, and his music was being produced by Talvin Singh, Big Chillers would often see Shane in drag, non compos mentis. Thankfully (or perhaps not) he’s grown up, and is making some amazing music, mixing global styles and genres; his first album is released this autumn. Catch him at the Big Chill delivering brilliantly incisive comic urban poetry, which tackles contemporary issues in a subversive and yet accessible way.
