Jack To Phono

Jack To Phono

Jack to Phono Records regularly host evenings at The Big Chill House, so we thought we'd get the lowdown from head honcho Jack Launer...

Who are ya?
Hello, I’m Jack Launer, pleased to meet you. I have created Jack to Phono Records purveyors of quality sound recordings.

What's your night called?
It is called Jack to Phono

What's the music policy for your night?
As well as trying to introduce people to our own record label we like to introduce people to other like minded record labels such as Freestyle Records, Cookshop, Wah Wah in the stratosphere of independent music. Funk, Breaks and Electronic resulting in a good mix of dance music.

Who has played in the past, and who's performing at the next one?
So far we have kept it to our own artists that include Flevans, Random Heroes, Tom Eno and Beatphreak. We have had visuals provided by See No Evil, including a firework display from Hebden Bridge! Flevans is due back from his American tour so we are looking forward to seeing him back on the 23rd of May at The Big Chill House.

If money was no object, and you could book any line-up of DJs and bands living or dead, who would play?
For the re-incarnation factor an evening compared by Tony Wilson, Bill Hicks and Elvis with special guests Joy Division, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Bob Marley. For the Big Chill I would sign the cheques for Portishead and Radiohead and perhaps broker a deal to reform The Stone Roses, Cocteau Twins and Simian! I think you have the rest under control!

What are your current top 5 tunes?
The Rip- Portishead- Go Beat
Mambo Schmambo- Phase 5 Stereo- Jack to Phono
WCTBL-PSKI- Astrolab
Ugly Day- Lost Idol (Tom Eno Remix)- Cookshop
New Orleans Funk Volume 2 on Soul Jazz- Soul Jazz

What three things does your ideal bar have to have?
Simple: Good sounds, Great Food and Quality Drinks

Ideal evening chilling at home?
Late sunshine, BBQ fired up, tunes on and third bottle of wine opened with friends and family awaiting a round of corn on the cob with the cat looking down her nose at all the commotion.

Favourite places?
Belize, Iceland, Loire Valley, Pembrokeshire, West Coast of Ireland and finally nursing a pint of Moorhouses in the pub at Barley having just climbed Pendle Hill.

What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently working on the new Tombee single which will be our 15th vinyl release so far and Tom Eno’s new long player. We are awaiting our next batch of singles from Flevans, Random Heroes and Phase 5 Stereo and working on our first download only album which will encompass a lot of our remixes and B Sides.

Highlight of your life so far?
My son Kasper being born six months ago and dare I mention the treble in 99 in the same sentence? I just did..whoops..

At a festival - tent, B&B, or hotel for you, and why?
Has to be a tent, although a self inflating mattress, and pillow should not be forgotten. I think being in a tent at a festival makes the weekend and I enjoy sleeping outdoors.

What was your Top Big Chill moment?
Hearing some of our tunes being played around the place randomly gives you a buzz. Performances from Fat Freddys Drop, Seasick Steve and that bizarre morning where England beat Australia at cricket where all you could hear was 5 live on the hill. Unfortunately I can’t remember some of the earlier experiences, bad Jack.

Describe the essence of The Big Chill in a few words...
A bloody good do.

Where can I find you online?
You can find us at www.jacktophono.com and www.myspace.com/jacktophono

Jack To Phono will be bringing the finest in funk, breaks, and electronic dance music to The Big Chill House on Friday 23rd May, with Flevans topping the bill.
