LEGGO BEAST - Interview

Leggo Beast - Interview

Sam Sofa gets to grip with the enigma that is Leggo Beast as he gears up to release his first album 'Thunk' on Big Chill Recordings...

What motivated and inspired you to make music back in hometown Hull?
The fish, sea shanties and the moon.

Describe your new album 'Thunk' in ten words.
Well, it starts oddly with these two guys on CB radio ... Doh!

Describe yourself in three.
Parsec, arnolfini, dal.

Your track titles are amusing: 'Sweetie Poo', 'Marzipan Eyes', 'Moonboots' - Where do they derive from?
I just thunk them up.

What was your favourite Big Chill Eastnor moment?
'The Big Chill 2003... Apparently I was there...'

You once said that everyone has the ability to make music. What are your views on the new technology that assists this?
I've never really liked computers; in fact mostly I loathe them. But 10 years ago it would have cost thousands to go into a studio with flying faders and record on digital multitrack; now we can all do it with just a PC (or Mac if you're a bit weird). That's the beauty of computers, they take away the myth of the professional and let everyone have a go. And so we should.

Who else out there in the contemporary music-making world has got 'the thunk'?
There's not a lot of thunk about at the moment, it's quite hard to find. Of course in a few years it's all the music mags will be talking about; forget r&b pirates and the Suzi Quattro post retro glam look, your airwaves will be full of thunk and the world will breathe.

So. Album delivered. Time to sit back now and have a nice cuppa?
Yeah, OK. I think a rest does you good. We should all rest, often. Work can be really bad for you and we should try to avoid it whenever possible!
